Keywords for your website

November 17, 2008

Once you have created your website, you have to begin to think about its promotion. It doesn’t matter if you have the best website in the entire world if nobody has heard about it. That is why you can start by working at your website’s keywords. They are very important in the marketing business and they are pretty easy to use. Here are some tips.

What exactly are keywords? Well, these are words that lead people directly to your website and of course to your products. When people want to find something on the internet, they type some words in the search engines hoping to find what they’re looking for. Don’t forget that key words have to define your website and that is why you must choose them very carefully. You need to do some research first, to ask your clients how they would define your website and make a list. The customers’ opinion is essential because they are the ones who buy from you.

Keywords usually have to express everything you website means, its content and its concept. People might look for specific things or for ideas. Make sure that you cover both areas. Pay attention to words’ popularity. There are many words tracking websites that will give you thousands of statistics. The idea is to choose some popular words that you are sure everybody will search for. But, you can’t just pick up the most searched words and to put them as your website’s keywords. They have to match to your website’s image and vision. You have to combine these two criteria and to find the perfect solutions.

You can also choose another strategy. You can risk a little bit and select some original and unpopular words. In this case you can be sure that your faithful customers will definitely find you. But this works only for the target. People who haven’t heard of you and your company will never search for those unique strange words.

Statistics have also proved that keywords work better when they are combined. So, try to find more than one word to define your website. Word combinations are more complex and they are more meaningful. One word is pretty vague and it can’t express too much. One word key words are called orphans. An orphan has no parents and so your website might have no customers. The best solution is to use one general and popular word next to one specific to your business.

If you haven’t selected your website’s key words yet, you should begin as soon as possible because people who are looking for your company might not find it. It is obvious that key words can bring you more visitors. Your job is to choose them correctly; those words will lead people to your company with just one click.
