Types of traffic
December 16, 2008
Everybody is crazy about traffic when it comes to websites’ popularity. It is true that traffic is essential for a website’s survival. There is no purpose to maintain a blog or a website if nobody visits it or reads what’s in it. What you don’t know is that there are many types of traffic. They can be grouped in order to help you choose the type you want to follow for your website. Here are some short descriptions of some of the most popular types of traffic.
The most common type of traffic is the one that is created by search engines. You have certainly heard about Googl, Yahoo or Msn. They are all search engines that people use when they want to find something. Sometimes it happens that the words they search for will bring your website on their list. That is how they may give your link a click and become visitors of your website. Traffic from search engines is pretty unpredictable because it brings on your blog all sorts of people. What I mean is that your target is not the only one that will visit your website.
Another type of traffic is type-in traffic. As you can already guess, this type of traffic comes from people directly typing your domain name in the address bar. This is pretty hard to obtain and can only come if either your domain is somehow known and spread by word of mouth (people hear about your site from other people), or if you have a pretty simple and short domain that people would think to try directly when they look for something, like buyipod.com. These domain are expensive to buy though and pretty impossible to find nowadays, when all good ones are already taken.
You can also receive some visitors thanks to the advertising you do for your website. Ads are very important and they have a huge impact on people. You can advertise in many ways. You can talk to your friends, send e-mails or even pay for some online areas. It depends on you which type of ad you choose. One thing is clear: advertising will bring more traffic on your company’s website. When people begin to find out about you they become curious and they will visit your blog in order to find out more about you.
My classification ends up with the traffic obtained through directories. The most popular directories are article directories. You can make an association with them and to post some of your articles in there. The best part is that these directories have their own search engines. In this way people can find your articles easier and visit your website as well.
It seems that traffic has many different sources. In the end, the best thing is to combine all these types of traffic in order to achieve as many visitors as possible. The more visitors you have, the more buyers you have. And this means profit, a lot of profit. Build a strong traffic on your website and you will notice the difference in a very short period of time.
